Counterfeit Bill Usage on Rise in Iowa
October 2, 2018 |
PMCI has been alerted that instances of counterfeit bills being passed at convenience stores are on the rise. Fortunately for PMCI members, the types of bills being passed are not very sophisticated and should be caught by store employees exercising proper due diligence while checking out patrons at the register.
Currently, two of the more common types of counterfeit bills being passed include motion picture money and United States like currency with Chinese writing displayed on the front, back, or both sides of the counterfeit bill. Both types of counterfeit currency are readily available for purchase online and PMCI has received reports that attempts to pass the currency off at convenience stores have been on the rise. Fortunately, the counterfeit bills are not difficult to depict, the scam relies on employees not paying attention so a reminder to all employees to exercise care when accepting cash from customers will go a long way toward eliminating any issues for your business:
