OUR ADVOCACY PRIORITIES

What We're Working On

Tax & Payment Policy

FUELIowa works for fair, transparent tax policies that recognize the economic realities of fuel and convenience businesses. Our advocacy addresses motor fuel taxes, sales and excise taxes, payment-related costs and other tax policies affecting our members and their customers.

Fuel & Energy Policy

FUELIowa advocates for fuel choice, quality, affordability and reliability across gasoline, diesel, propane and biofuels. We support policies that strengthen Iowa’s fuel supply and distribution network, encourage innovation, protect consumers and allow businesses to meet changing energy needs.

Convenience Retail

FUELIowa represents the interests of Iowa’s convenience retailers on policies affecting everyday store operations and profitability. Our work includes payment costs, tobacco and vapor products, alcohol, food and beverage issues, consumer regulations and other policies impacting convenience retail.

Property & Infrastructure

FUELIowa advocates for policies that protect investment in the infrastructure needed to store, transport and dispense fuel safely and efficiently. Priorities include underground and aboveground storage tanks, fueling equipment, environmental programs, property taxation and funding for infrastructure modernization.

Workforce & Transportation

FUELIowa works to keep Iowa’s fuel transportation network moving safely and efficiently. We advocate on commercial driver and workforce issues, hours-of-service requirements, hazardous-material transportation and other policies affecting the people and vehicles that deliver essential fuels across Iowa.

Regulatory Policy

FUELIowa engages with state and federal regulators to promote practical, consistent rules that protect people and the environment without unnecessary burdens. We bring industry expertise to regulatory decisions and help ensure the real-world impacts on Iowa businesses are understood.

The number one priority of FUELIowa membership is the association’s successful efforts to help members through the maze of legislative and regulatory issues that confront the industry. FEDERAL ISSUES

FUELIowa just doesn't monitor the regulatory environment in Iowa, but also in Washington D.C. A member of the Energy Marketers of America, we collaborate with EMA & 48 state associations to ensure an effective regulatory environment for our industry.

Our Partnership with Energy Marketers of America

FUELIowa is proud to partner with the Energy Marketers of America (EMA), a national organization representing energy marketers and fuel retailers across the country.

Through this partnership, FUELIowa strengthens its voice on federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting Iowa's fuel industry. EMA provides valuable advocacy, industry expertise, and timely updates on policies affecting fuel distribution, convenience retailing, transportation, and energy markets.

Together, FUELIowa and EMA work to protect the interests of independent fuel marketers and retailers, promote policies that support a competitive marketplace, and ensure our members have a voice in decisions shaping the future of the industry.
