24-Hour Emergency Response Compliance
Be compliant - the easy way!
Any company transporting hazardous materials MUST provide an emergency response telephone number for use in the event of an emergency involving a hazardous material (49 CFR §172.604).
The telephone number must be monitored at all times in hazardous material transportation. The person monitoring the number must be knowledgeable of the hazardous material, have a comprehensive emergency response and incident mitigation for that material, or have immediate access to a person who possesses such knowledge and information.
FUELIowa has partnered with Infotrac (www.infotrac.net), a state-of-the-art chemical emergency response system endorsed by the U.S. Department of Transportation, to provide 24 hour emergency response to members who ship hazardous materials.
For more information or enrollment forms call Jim Ewing (515) 421-4596 or email jim@fueliowa.com. This service offers exclusive pricing for FUELIowa members.

Infotrac’s command center is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, by people knowledgeable of the hazardous materials or wastes being shipped and have access to comprehensive emergency response mitigation information. Infotrac’s resources allow responders access to a nationwide network of databases, experts, and agencies including poison control, hospitals, chemists, chemical engineers, and environmental specialists.
The Iowa Department of Transportation stated that 90% of Emergency Response numbers listed as a home, work, or cell number are out of compliance with 49 CFR §172.604. Emergency response numbers will be a point of emphasis in future DOT compliance checks. Fines for carriers operating without a proper 24-hour emergency response number may run up to $50,000.
