VISA Denies Request to Delay the EMV Deadline

This week, VISA denied a joint PMAA, NACS, SIGMA, NATSO and the Merchant Advisory Group request to delay the October 1, 2020 EMV liability shift deadline to a later date to be determined after the health crisis comes to an end. In its response, Visa said that it has been in regular contact with many fuel retailers and knows that there has been some disruption in upgrading to EMV technology. However, Visa said that it is too early to assess the full impact and will continue to closely monitor the situation. The joint association request was also sent to Mastercard, American Express and Discover, who have not yet responded.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reported this week that Visa and Mastercard are likely to stick with their planned increase to interchange fees for small retailers sometime this year. Click here to read the WSJ article.
