2019 Iowa House and Senate Leadership

On Friday, November 9, House and Senate Republicans held leadership elections. Once again, Speaker Linda Upmeyer and Majority Leader Chris Hagenow will lead their caucus. They are joined by Representative Matt Windschitl, who will return as Speaker Pro-Tempore and John Wills, who will serve as Majority Whip. Assistant leaders will be elected at a later time.
The Senate Republicans maintained their current leadership structure as well. Senator Jack Whitver will continue to serve as the Senate Majority Leader and Senator Charles Schneider as the Senate President. Senator Jerry Behn will serve as President Pro-Tempore and Senator Amy Sinclair as Majority Whip. Assistant leaders include Senators Randy Feenstra, Jake Chapman, Waylon Brown and Dan Zumbach.
Similarly, Senate Democrats held leadership elections over the weekend. Senator Janet Petersen was re-elected to serve as the Minority Leader and Senator Amanda Ragan was chosen to be the Minority Whip. Assistant leaders include Senators Bill Dotzler, Joe Bolkcom, Pam Jochum, Liz Mathis, Herman Quirmbach, and Rich Taylor.
House Democrats elected their leadership team on Saturday, November 17. Representative Todd Pritchard was selected to serve as the Minority Leader and Representative Jo Oldson as the Minority Whip. Assistant Leaders include Brian Meyer, Wes Breckenridge, Sharon Steckman, and John Forbes.
