PMCI Needs Your Feedback on An Emerging Diesel Fuel Quality Issue

In recent weeks PMCI has heard from active and associate members regarding an on-going issue with diesel fuel being marketed in Iowa. PMCI has received information from a handful of members that have been experiencing frequent diesel dispenser filter clogging issues at their proprietary locations as well as private fleet fueling facilities. Some facilities have indicated that 30-micron filters are clogging after only 4,000-5,000 gallons of diesel throughput.

The state of Iowa has collected samples from several filters across the state for analysis. The test results obtained from those filters are pending. There does appear to be a similarity in the type of substance being found on diesel dispenser filters across the state. The culprit appears to be a white, egg-yolk like substance as it appears on the filter. When poured, the substance has a propensity to take on a string-like appearance.

PMCI is hoping that this notice will generate more information to assist the state with their investigation in identifying the cause of the problem and to develop an appropriate response.
