PMCI Hosts Tankwagon Excellence Workshop In Our Urbandale Office

On Wednesday, July 19, PMCI hosted 40 members in our Urbandale office for a seminar tailored toward our tankwagon members. The seminar speakers included Mark Schaffner and Robert Lueck with CHS; Captain Dean House with the Iowa DOT Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement; Tony Spuzello with REG, Inc., and Hoon Ge with MEG Corp. located in Plymouth, Minnesota.

PMCI members attending the seminar were presented with a lot of detailed information covering a wide range of topics. One topic that generated a lot of questions and answers between our speakers and attendees centered on opportunities for growth in Iowa’s off-road biodiesel market. Currently only 16.5% of the off-road diesel gallons marketed in the state of Iowa are blended with some percentage of biodiesel. This staggering figure shows tremendous opportunity for growth, but it also shows that off-road diesel consumers have a disconnect with biodiesel. Presenters and attendees shared information and identified many of the common myths associated with biodiesel by off-road consumers.

In the end, speakers and attendees communicated valuable information regarding the storage and handling of biodiesel, best practices regarding additives, and the economic opportunities available for biodiesel. Attendees shared that groups like PMCI, the Iowa Biodiesel Board, the Iowa Soybean Association, and REG would help attendees market biodiesel to off-road users more efficiently through targeted outreach and education tailored towards off-road users and the heavy-duty engines that so often consume off-road diesel fuel.
