Iowa Vapor Products Directory to go Live on Thursday, October 15
October 13, 2026 |
The Iowa Department of Revenue will publish the state Vapor Products Directory beginning on Thursday, October 15, 2026. The publishing of the directory follows a multi-year legal challenge to the state law which has now been resolved. Beginning Thursday, only vapor products listed on the state directory will be legal for sale in the state of Iowa. Conversely, vapor products not listed within the state directory shall not be sold and retailers should remove those products from inventory.
For twenty-one days following publication of the directory, the Department of Revenue will focus on education targeting manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and consumers. Beginning on November 16, 2026, the Department of Revenue will begin enforcing for violations of the Vapor Products Directory. It is worth noting, local jurisdictions have concurrent authority to conduct enforcement of Iowa’s Vapor Products Directory.
After the directory is published, members of the public and law enforcement may submit a complaint about a business selling or offering to sell unapproved vapor products on GovConnectIowa. To submit a complaint, click “Submit a Complaint about a Business,” then click “Report Tobacco Complaint.” The Department will work with local governments and law enforcement to aid in compliance checks of retailers.
