Governor Reynolds Rescinds Statewide Mask Mandate & Other Restrictions

Effective at 12:01 am on Sunday, February 7, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has rescinded Iowa’s statewide mask mandate and relaxed social distancing requirements as statewide mitigation efforts against the ongoing pandemic. Governor Reynolds has not issued a statement explaining her reasons for the lifting of the mask mandate or social distancing requirement. However, the Governor’s proclamation strongly encourages Iowans, businesses and organizations to take reasonable public health measures consistent with guidance from the Iowa Department of Public Health.  

The emergency proclamation rescinding the statewide mask mandate applies to restaurants, bars, and other venues like sporting events. Included within this classification are convenience stores with food service. Previously, private gatherings required capacity limits of 15 but the proclamation has lifted all restrictions on gatherings as well. Although the proclamation issued by Governor Reynolds is deemed to be a statewide proclamation, FUELIowa members are encouraged to consult with their county or city for any local ordinances which may conflict with the proclamation issued by Governor Reynolds.
