Governor Reynolds Proclamation of Disaster Emergency Suspending Regulatory Provisions Including Hours of Service for Drivers
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed a Proclamation of Disaster Emergency in response to Monday’s storms. The proclamation temporarily suspends regulatory provisions pertaining to weight limits and hours of service for disaster repair crews and drivers delivering goods and services and the movement of loads related to responding to the severe storm system throughout the state of Iowa. The proclamation expires on September 9, 2020 unless action is taken by Governor Reynolds at an earlier date.
The relief granted under the proclamation is only applicable to direct relief provided in response to the emergency. Please refer to Section 5 of the proclamation for further detail. As always, a driver experiencing fatigue must be allowed to stand down and have a minimum of 10 consecutive hours off-duty.
Drivers operating under the relief granted in the proclamation should carry a copy with them at all time. The full text of the proclamation is available here
