CBD Sales at Member Locations
September 29, 2020 by John Maynes |
Recent interest among FUELIowa members has spiked regarding the legal sale of CBD products at member locations. On June 17, 2020, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed Iowa House File 2581, an act relating to the regulation of hemp, the plant from which CBD products are manufactured for consumption.
House File 2581 legalizes a pathway for CBD products to be sold in the state of Iowa. Manufacturers, distributors, and retailers of CBD products must register with the state of Iowa and the CBD product sold must be accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis verifying the product as legal for sale in the state of Iowa.
Unfortunately, the administrative rules accompanying the implementation of House File 2581 have stalled and legislative action may be required before the rules move forward. Until such time that the administrative rules are completed, no registration process is available to manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. Because no registration process is available, the retail sale of CBD is currently not permitted in FUELIowa member locations. FUELIowa staff will continue to update the membership as more information becomes available.
