2022 Underground Storage Tank Annual Online Renewal

2022 Annual Tank Tag Renewals will begin December 10, 2021.

You will be able to complete and submit your renewal online through DNR’s UST Online Renewal System.  Payment may be made online via E-Check or you will be able to print your completed form and mail it with a check (payment by credit card is not available at this time). If payment is by mail then the current, completed renewal form must accompany the renewal payment. Checks received without a form will be returned to the sender.

Annual UST Tag Renewal requirements apply to temporarily closed tanks, and those under delivery prohibition, in addition to regulated active tanks over 1,100 gallons. The online system will calculate the correct fees owed based on tank status.

The annual tank management fee of $65 per tank compartment is due by January 15th.

An additional $250 per tank compartment late fee is due if the tank management fee is not paid by March 1, 2022.

What do you need before you begin your 2022 online renewal?

1. Username and password that you used last year for your online renewal. If you have not renewed online previously you will need to create an Account. (See FAQ on page 2 for assistance)
2. Registration number for your site or the city where it is located. Check the online UST Tank Database for information about your site.
3. Current copy of your financial responsibility documentation (pollution liability and accidental release insurance) if the department does not have the most recent copy or if it expires prior to March 1.  PMMIC insureds do not need to submit financial responsibility documentation.
4. Check that you are up to date on your biennial compliance inspection.

6. Beginning December 10, 2021 the link for 2022 annual tank renewals will become available on the UST webpage at www.iowadnr.gov/ust

We do not automatically mail renewal forms. All owners are encouraged to renew via the online system. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. How do I login?

A valid Iowa Enterprise A&A username and password will be required in order to use the application. Click on “Create an Account” at the top of the UST Online Renewal application login page to obtain an Iowa Enterprise A&A account if you do not already have one. The Online Renewal login page is https://programs.iowadnr.gov/dotte/

Anyone will be able to create an A&A account to pay tank management fees. Typically this would be the Owner, A/B Operator, or Authorized Representative.

2. How do I find my site?

You can search the online renewal system using any of the fields. The easiest is using UST Site Registration number, but site name or site address can also be used. When searching by site address, just use the address number and city to narrow the search. Distribution center number can be used if you own more than one facility. . If you have been issued a distribution number, you will be asked if you want to include the other sites you own. The distribution center number will include all your sites for the renewal application.

3. What if I bought or sold a site?

Review the DNR Tanks database (https://programs.iowadnr.gov/tanks/pages/advanced.aspx) to see if the DNR has the current ownership/affiliates information. You may need to submit documents to the department. . The change of ownership form is on the UST Forms page
