UST Tank Closure Funding Requires Budget Approval

PMCI advocated for $15,000/site funding of tank closures dating back to 2010 out of the Iowa Comprehensive Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Fund. This has been a very popular program. Last year, more than $1.2 million was spent to help UST owners with the cost of tank closures. One of the conditions for funding includes “prior budget approval” as noted in Iowa Code 455G.12A. UST owners and operators are reminded to alert contractors to ensure that all expenses be approved prior to the expense being incurred and once approved, and to submit all invoices or bills within thirty days of work completion. If a tank closure occurs without prior budget approval, the $15,000/site funding will not be approved. All groundwater professionals and UST professionals were mailed a letter from the UST Fund administrator late 2017 with this reminder.
